Challenges created by the Covid-19 pandemic
The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 posed an unprecedented challenge for Fraserway RV, a company traditionally welcoming around 90% of its guests from Europe, predominantly Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. Accustomed to a bustling summer season with its rental fleet in high demand, the closure of Canada’s borders to international travelers abruptly altered the landscape. The sudden restriction left Fraserway RV facing an unexpected hurdle: an excess inventory of over 1,000 RVs, a stark contrast to the usual sold-out scenario. Navigating uncharted territory, the company had to swiftly adapt its strategies, exploring new avenues to attract local customers and reimagining its marketing approach to appeal to a domestic audience.
Film industry rental program
During the challenging times brought about by the closure of borders due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I played an important role in spearheading initiatives to generate alternative revenue for Fraserway RV. Recognizing the growing demand within the film and production industry, I collaborated with the company to establish a specialized rental program catering to the needs of production companies that had shifted their projects from the U.S. to Canada. This adaptive approach not only provided Fraserway RV with a new stream of income but also showcased the versatility of RVs in meeting diverse customer requirements.
RV travel inspiration guide
In a more comprehensive endeavor, I leveraged my extensive experience as a tour director to create an RV travel inspiration guide aimed at enticing domestic travelers to rent an RV. Collaborating closely with knowledgeable rental staff at the company’s five rental stations across Canada, I developed a total of 20 RV itineraries, with four distinct routes for each rental station. Ranging from approximately six to ten days in duration, these itineraries were made available in print at all rental stations, published on the company’s website, and offered as a downloadable PDF file. The positive reception from both Fraserway RV and guests attested to the success of this project, as these curated itineraries continue to serve as valuable resources for travelers—both domestic and international—as they plan their unforgettable RV vacations, showcasing the beauty and diversity of Canada’s landscapes.
